In the past, iTunes' DRM protection made it virtually impossible for the custom electronics industry to integrate iTunes and Windows Media files into a single media management system. In most cases, the iPod dock was the only solution. However, the twice-compressed files housed on the typical iPod offered noticeably poorer audio quality when amplified through an A/V system.
